French prosecutors ask the court to prohibit two Scientology Church branch offices’ activity in France, as they are suspected of fraud.
The representative of the state prosecutor’s office also claimed that it is necessary to obtain a foul million Euros fee from the headquarters of Scientology in France by the court’ decision. Scientology Church, which was created in 1954 in the USA, is considered to be a religious organization there. Some of celebrities, such as John Travolta and Tom Cruise are its parishioners. But France won’t consider Scientology to be a religion and the trials against this organization are quite common there, as it is often accused of financial fraud. The matter of law started on the 25th of May and some members of Scientology church are accused of fraudulent actions. The state prosecutors ask the court to judge Alan Rosenberg, the founder of the French branch of Scientology to a four-year term of a suspended sentence and make him pay a penalty of 150 thousand Euros. It is supposed that during this autumn the court will make its decision. Meanwhile, the representatives of Scientology Church claim that the initiating a case against them is a violation of their right for freedom of worship.
The Scientologists’ written appeals allege that “in any other case the prosecutors’ decision would make us surprised, as one cannot be against the church which is acknowledged all over the world. But now we are absolutely sure that they just want to sue us and initiate a case against us” though “our Church had proven many times in many countries that these accusations are groundless”, - this is exactly what the disciples of Scientology tell. The representative of Scientology Church in France tells that “the wave of negative information that we observe and that includes a pamphlet against Scientology, a number of articles and TV programs is nothing but a thoroughly stage-managed campaign. We know this as the Inter-Ministry Mission against Cultic Abuse (MIVILUDES) and the National Union of Family and Personality Protection Associations (UNADFI; it’s a French anti-cultic group) want to press the case. This is the only way for them to influence the court’s decision”. The Scientologists seem to be unable to understand why their church is treated like this, as “it is taking up some social programs in many European countries and overseas. The Church’s campaigns are known all over the world, and we are always opened for society”. They also claim that “one can find out more about Scientology watching our TV channel for half an hour, than making an investigation for ten years”. “The president of MIVILUDES is going to read some MIVILUDES report just in some days before the trial, and he says this is “a pure chance”! It’s impossible not to admit that all these actions are meant to press the case. These methods mean that the figurants of the case against the Scientology are afraid to lose the case so they use mass media as a weapon”, - the heads of the Church stress.
Anti-Sect’s comments: ________________________________________ The leaders of the Scientologists are quite predictable when it comes to revealing the crimes, made by this destructive organization. They will pretend they are religion if they are accused of committing a crime and they will tell they are a science if they have to recruit new members. |
