Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is going to consider a number of projects which deal with the religious organizations’ activity

Kiev – during the new plenary week which takes place from the 1st to the 4th of December, Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is going to take up a number of projects dealing with some aspects of religious organizations’ activity. They are going to consider these projects both in session hall and in specified committees.

This information was provided by Kiev Institute of Religious Freedom.

On Wednesday, the 2nd of December, the committee for the issues of Human Rights, National Minorities and Inter-Ethnic Relations is supposed to take up the project of the Law of Ukraine “About the Procedure of Organizing and Carrying out Peaceful Meetings” (number of registration is №2450), which is being prepared for the second reading in the Parliament.

It is worth mentioning that in July 2009 the Institute of Religious Freedom sent his suggestions considering improving the text of the legislation bill, which provided the broadening of the bill’s sphere of action so that it worked with public religious rites and ceremonies too. They suggest making some changes in article 21 of the Law of Ukraine “About the Freedom of Worship and Religious Organizations”.

"Due to the interests of the religious people of Ukraine, - all the Churches, religious organizations and believers, that are there in Ukraine, - we desperately need to introduce the common unified approach to the legislations in the sphere of providing constitutional statements about the procedure of organizing peaceful public meetings, whether they are organized by religious or secular citizens”. This is what was told in the message of the Institute of Religious Freedom to the Committee.

On Thursday, 03.12.2009, the project of the Bill about preserving the complex of Kievo-Pecherska Lavra and further development of the National Kievo-Pechersk Historical and Cultural Reserve (number of registration is №5135, the authors of the project are V. Yavorivsky, V. Derevlyany, Y.Kendzer and others).

A similar document had already been sent to Verkhovna Rada by the members of the Committee for Culture and Morality - Related Issues. Yet, during the sitting, this initiative didn’t get enough votes to accept this project as a bill.

On this very day it during the sitting of the Parliament is planned to consider the question on considering the bill about making changes in some legislations of Ukraine in order to make them meet the requirements of the current legislations “About the State Registration of the Legal Persons and Natural Persons, who are Businessmen” (number of registration is №5146, the author is the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine). The Institute of Religious Freedom told that this bill would consider the problem of the “doubled registration” of religious organizations, which is frequently mentioned both experts and believers of various religions.
